Ribbon Bookmarks for Writer's Notebooks

I got this wonderful idea from Pinterest too! :-)  In the past students have taken up valuable time flipping through their Writer's Notebook to find where they were last.  This idea solves that problem!

So... I ordered this package of polka dot ribbon from Hobby Lobby online because we don't have one around here...

I let the kids each pick the color they wanted at school.  I brought home my list and got to work.  I cut each piece about 4-5 inches longer than the length of the composition notebooks.  So about 13-14 inches long.

I opened the notebooks to the inside of the back cover.  About an inch away from the binding I laid the ribbon upside down on the back cover.  I didn't take a picture at this point, and should have.  I had it so there about an inch and a half to two inches of ribbon that I glued on the inside of the back cover.

I used super glue to glue them in place.  I also tried some with tacky glue, and that worked just as well.

I left them open to let them dry as I worked on the others.  Twenty notebooks later, I was done.

Going along with my polka dot themed classroom, as well as having polka dot ribbon, I also bought composition notebooks at Walmart that had circles on them.  :-)

My wonderful husband was with me and helped me dig through the bins (at the back to school sales) to get enough of those kind for all of my kids.  I love him so!

Gotta love polka dots!

The kids love them and it gives them a little bit more of a personalized look with having them pick out their favorite color.  I have lots of ribbon left over to use for more fun projects (or next year for these) as well!

Wall of Quotes!

I love quotes!  I found a way to incorporate them into my classroom, thank you, Pinterest!  :-)

I printed them, laminated them, and then hung them with magnets.  Underneath that fabric is a chalkboard.  This is where I had the "Welcome Back" banner.  Here are some close ups of the quotes!  I love how it came out.  :-)

A surprise gift!

I have the BEST Ed Tech I could ask for this year!  She is WONDERFUL!  I love her so much!!  As you have seen, I have a polka dot themed classroom this year. A few weeks ago I walked in my classroom in the morning and found that she had put this on my desk, just because.  She is so sweet, and we get along great.  It makes for a smooth day with less stress when everyone is on the same page.  :-)  She is just the best!  Thanks again, Julie! :-)  I am so happy you're you!

Easy Skillet Chicken Parm

Chicken Parm

I found this recipe on Pinterest.  I had some chicken that I wanted to use and was craving pasta.  I seached on Pinterest and found a really easy/fast recipe for Chicken Parm.  Here it is:

You'll need:
Boneless, skinless chicken
Spaghetti or marinara sauce
Shredded Mozzarella cheese
1/3 c. Breadcrumbs
1/3 c. Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1 Tbsp. Olive oil
pasta of your choice

The recipe I got this from called for 4 chicken breasts, but I had 2- one big and one small, that I made into 3.

*Before I started cooking the chicken, I started the water for the pasta because the chicken doesn't take long to cook.  :-)

1. Mix the breadcrumbs (I used Italian Style), Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic salt together in a shallow bowl.
2. In another shallow bowl beat the egg with a fork until bubbly.
3.  It said to wrap the chicken in plastic wrap and gently pound it with a mallet to flatten it.
(I already had my chicken in a ziplock bag so I let he air out so it wouldn't pop when I hit it and left it in there to flatten.)  They said about a half inch would be best.  Mine ended up being a little thicker than that.
4.  Dip each piece of chicken into the egg, being careful to coat it, and then into the breadcrumb mixture.
5. Place all pieces of chicken into the skillet with the olive oil it in, on medium heat.
6.  Cook for about 5 minutes on each side so that they are cooked through.

7.  Turn heat to low and spoon sauce on top of each piece of chicken.  Then sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
8.  Cover and cook for another 3 or so minutes until the cheese is melted.

Serve over pasta.

I used fettuccine and I also made Pepperidge Farm mozzarella garlic bread to go with it.

It was really fast, easy, and tasty!

FINALLY!

I finally replaced my laptop that got stolen in June.  During the summer I was able to use my husband's laptop a lot more, but since school started it has been much more difficult to get on his to blog.  On Black Friday I got a GREAT deal on a laptop so here I am.  I will be posting more regularly again.  :-)
Keep checking for new ideas! :-)
